In June 2023, Catalyze was given a stand by USAID at the esteemed Summer Fancy Food show in New York City to represent 12 premium African producers who attended the Engage Trade Africa program.

The Summer Fancy Food Show is the largest trade-only specialty food event in the United States. Serving up the newest and best in specialty food and beverage, the Summer Fancy Food Show attracts thousands of makers, buyers, brokers, distributors, and other industry professionals for three days of product discovery, networking, and business opportunities.

The trip was a huge success with meaningful connections made with over 60 U.S. buyers for the African sellers. “It was amazing to hear from multiple buyers that African products are very much in demand in the United States at the moment, with several retail chains adding shelves dedicated to African products in answer to consumer demand for new and interesting products,” says Rex Bowden, Managing Director at Catalyze.

This is why Catalyze set up the Engage Trade Africa business matchmaking and peer learning event and program with USAID: to create links between African Exporters and U.S. and South African buyers, increasing intra-Africa trade and U.S.-Africa trade through the use of AGOA and building relationships through engaging activities and honest sharing of experiences.

Africa has an abundance of the highest quality food and beverage products, both manufactured and raw. The array of samples from the 12 African producers on the Catalyze|Engage Trade Africa stand was just a taste of what Africa has to offer.
